The Stitching Angels have not been able to meet since last March, due to the pandemic. However, we have not been idle! We were able to donate 964 items last year to the poor, needy and suffering in our community.
So far this year we have donated 143 items consisting of: lap blankets, full sized throws, baby blankets, prayer shawls, hats and scarves for adults, youths and babies, sweater sets and handmade toys for babies, and a hooded bath towel. Some of our
members also donated ready-made articles of children’s clothing.
Recently, we were finally able to deliver 40 chemo pillows, 40 chemo port pillows, 14 chemo hats and 24 rice packs to both of the local chemo treatment facilities.
We also made 31 baptismal bibs for our parish and we are currently sewing commemorative cloths for the RCIA adults and for older children.
Although we are not able to meet, members may pick up supplies and drop off finished items on my porch bench. Some members buy their own supplies and some buy finished items to donate. Attendance at meetings is not required and all of us work from home. When we are able to meet in person once more, the gatherings will be a chance to see what everyone has made and maybe exchange patterns. New members are always welcome—as are donations of yarn. We received a lot of fabric during the pandemic but we are getting low on our supply of yarn.
Feel free to call me at 724-944-7104 if you are interested in joining our ministry, have questions, or some yarn to donate!

In spite of the pandemic, our “angels” continue to use their gifts and talents to make items for various organizations in need. Most recently they delivered 2 Fleece Blankets, 4 Full-Size Crocheted Afghans, 1 Adult Scarf/Hat Set, 5 Scarves and 8 Adult Hats to the Salvation Army; 4 Toddler Blankets, 3 Baby Blankets, 1 Infant Sweater Set, 2 Infant Hats and 3 Toddler Hats to Children’s Advocacy; and a dozen Chemo Hats to Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute. They also provided 6 Prayer Shawls and 2 Toddler Blankets to Eastbrook Mission Barn—as one of the handicapped clients is a five year old boy and he has a little sister.
One of our new projects is making Fidget Blankets/Quilts for Hospice. Fidget Blankets allow individuals to use their hands and alleviate agitation by giving them something to focus on. See the picture on the left.
