What is a Confirmation Blanket? The tradition of making each confirmation candidate a tie blanket was started by former Christ the King's women's group. The group prayed for each candidate as they cut and tied each blanket. When Christ the King and St. James became one, that tradition ocntinued. As all seven parishes beccame one--Holy Spirit Parish--the combined women's groups formed Women of Faith.
To continue the blanket tradition, Women of Faith adopted making tie blankets for Confirmation candidates as one of their social service ministries.
Why make a tie blanket? As members pray over each tie in the blanket, they hope that the owner will use their blanket and be reminded to stay "tied" to their faith in God and their faith community at Holy Spirit Parish.
The blankets are purchased and then distributed to smaller groups of members who meet to work on completing them. If you would like to be a part of this service ministry, please contact Susan Kearns at 724-651-1992.
Susan reports, "We completed 109 but only needed 96 for the 2020 confirmation group. . . we have the remaining in completed inventory." In addition, for the Confirmation sacrament coming in the spring of 2021, it is estimated that they will need more than 70 blankets for that group of students. Give Susan a call to find out more about it.
