Josephine Marcella Scalzo, 85, formerly of Cunningham Avenue died on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 in Poland, OH while she was living at her daughter’s house. She was born in New Castle on June 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Claude and Ethel (Allsopp) Beckman. She was married to the late Michael F. Scalzo, who died May 30, 2006.
David A. Beck 77, of Union Township passed away peacefully the evening of April 26, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 25, 1945 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Wilbur A. and Victoria DiMuccio Beck. On November 24, 1990, David married his beloved wife, the former Victoria Saul. She survives at home.
Joseph M. Haney Jr., 70, of New Castle, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 5, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on Feb. 10, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, while his father was serving in the U.S. Army. His parents were Joseph M. Haney Sr. and Phyllis Jean (Reid) Haney.
On this special weekend, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker at St. Joseph the Worker Church on Saturday, April 30th, at 4:00 pm. Following this Mass, there will be a simple reception to provide an opportunity for fellowship and camaraderie! Last weekend, I highlighted the blessing our amazing, young parochial vicars, Fr. Brendan Dawson and Fr. Benjamin Barr, are to all of us. This weekend, I would like to highlight our holy deacons, Deacon John Carran and his wife, Robin; Deacon S. Daniel Kielar and his wife, Karen; and our religious Sisters of the St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, Sr. Ann Bremmer and Sr. Veronica.
A very blessed Divine Mercy Sunday to all of you. In keeping with our tradition, there will be a special Divine Mercy celebration this Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm at St. Vitus Church. The Divine Mercy Holy Hour is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm and include Adoration, Chaplet, Confessions & Benediction, and Veneration of a Relic of St. Faustina.

No matter what our trials and tribulations, for all of us who believe in the resurrected Christ, we have a reason to rejoice. We know that our Savior lives. Because He lives, so do all of our loved ones who have passed from this life to eternity! God has extended to all of humanity the possibility of the forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life.
Frank T. Spinelli, 65, of New Castle passed away the morning of Aril 19, 2022 at his residence. Born on August 19, 1956 in New Castle, Frank was the son of the late Thomas F. and Louise E. Rossi Spinelli.
Kimberly A. Dalton, 58, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of April 11, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Kim was born in New Castle on February 6, 1964. She was preceded in death by her father, James R. Compeli, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Angela “Angel” Fontana Compeli in New Castle. Kim is also survived by her beloved husband, Paul L. Dalton, whom she married on August 9, 2010.
Frank J. Makarevich, 68 of Neshannock Township, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of April 13, 2022. Frank was born on November 5, 1953 in New Castle, PA, the son of the late Frank T. and Mafalda (Muffy) DiMuccio Makarevich.
Mary K. Schenkel of New Castle, passed peacefully at home under hospice care on Friday afternoon, April 8, 2022, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Grove City, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Bumbaco) Trepasso. She married William T. Schenkel on May 25, 1974.
Peter S. Petrella, 81, of Union Township passed away the morning of April 7, 2022 at UPMC Shadyside. Born on October 3, 1940 in Hillsville, PA, Peter was the son of the late Francesco and Angela Marterella Petrella. Peter is survived by his beloved wife, the former Judith Shaffer, whom he married on February 24, 1970.
Anthony M. “Tony” Colaluca, 68, formerly of Neshannock Township, New Castle, passed away on March 28, 2022, at his home in Wichita, KS. Tony was born in New Castle on January 30, 1954, the son of the late Anthony A. Colaluca and Irene Vanasky.
Richard Warren "Dickie" Clark, 82, of New Castle passed away the morning of April 4, 2022, at the Haven Convalescent Home. Dickie was born on May 4, 1939, in New Castle the son of the late Roy R. and Bessie V. (Hammaker) Clark, the youngest of nine children. He was a graduate of New Castle High School and went on to marry the late Priscilla M. Stalma. They were married just shy of 50 years before she preceded him in death on June 1, 2012.
Agnes Rigby, 74, of Shenango Township passed away the morning of April 9, 2022 at West Penn Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born on December 16, 1947 in Ellwood City, Agnes was the daughter of the late Marco and Rose Nocera DiCerbo. On June 24, 1972, Agnes married her beloved husband, George Herbert Rigby. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2006.
Irene G. Downing, age 97, formerly of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of April 8, 2022, at Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington. Born July 19, 1924, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Pawlowski) Galant. She was preceded in death on September 27, 2010, by her husband of 66 years, Richard Roy Downing, whom she married August 19, 1944.
Frank L. Campedelli, 95, of Neshannock Township passed away on April 7, 2022 at Haven Convalescent Home. Born on August 3, 1926 in Boston, MA, Frank was the son of the late Louis and Cecelia Campedelli. On August 11, 1973, Frank married his beloved wife, the former Serena Rashid. She survives at home.
Arianna Elisabeth Brown, 22, of Neshannock Twp., passed away the evening of April 1, 2022, at her residence. Born Oct. 10, 1999, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Robert R. Brown and Tiffany (Ludwiczak) Brown. Both survive.
Eleanor Ann Angelucci, 90, passed on to Heaven at 10:10 p.m. on April 4, 2022. Born August 18, 1931 in Ellwood City, PA to the late Angelo S. Conforti and Maria Josephine Figliomeni Conforti. Ellie met her beloved Alfonso "Fonce" at Weisz's Diner in Ellwood City, where she worked as a waitress. They wed in 1952.
A blessed Holy Week to all of you. This Sunday, Passion Sunday, we begin the highest holy days of our Catholic faith for the year. No matter what you have been able to do, or have failed to do, for the season of Lent, let us all be determined to make this week truly holy. If you have never attended the sacred Triduum, this is the year to do it.
