Shirley Ann Grotzinger, 72, of Friendship Street, died Friday, July 23, 2021 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born in New Castle on March 26, 1949, a daughter of the late Ira and Gladys (Baxter) Watt. She was married to Stephen J. Grotzinger on July 18, 1970, he survives in New Castle.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Michael Scarazzo on the morning of January 22, 2021 at the age of 74. Bob was born in New Castle to the late Norman and Mary Scarazzo.

Two important liturgical announcements were in the news this week. The first was a joint announcement from the Bishops of Pennsylvania regarding the reinstatement of the obligation to attend Mass. The second was a statement from the Diocese of Pittsburgh regarding Pope Francis’ changes in the status of the Latin Mass.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosemary Bruno on the morning of 07/20/2021, at the age of 78. Rosemary was born in New Castle to the late Michael and Jennie (Jane) Singer of Mahoningtown.

William J. ‘Billy’ Sperdute, 67, of New Castle Street, formerly of Mahoningtown, died Monday, July 19, 2021 at The Grove-New Wilmington. He was born on September 13, 1953 in New Castle a son of the late Frank and Rose (Leone) Sperdute.

“You have delighted us long enough,” said famed English novelist, Jane Austen. After 94 years of delighting us on Earth, God decided it was time to call Fonce home to be with Him. Alfonso Frank Angelucci, 94, passed away peacefully from our world into Heaven at 7:45am on May 17, 2021. Known as “Fonce” or “Foncie” to all who knew him well and loved him, his passing will bring some silence to bowling alleys, card games, auto body garages, family gatherings, sporting events and wedding receptions that he would attend.

Carolyn Ann Glorioso, 97, formerly of Shenango Township, passed away the evening of July 9, 2021 at Jameson Care Center. Born on May 28, 1924 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late George and Sadie Cialella Caffro. On July 19, 1947, Carolyn married her beloved husband, Joseph J. Glorioso. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2018.

John “Bananas” Ross, 91, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of July 7, 2021 at UPMC Jameson. Born on September 27, 1929 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Arsenio (George) and Lena Mosley Ross. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Joanna Audia, who he married on June 27, 1959.

Thank you to TJ Belsterling, our coordinator of Middle School & Youth Ministry. He hosted a fabulous, and first time ever, movie night on the lawn at the St. Camillus site. According to TJ: “It was a beautiful day, with volleyball, corn-hole, kickball, bocce ball, and yes, the movie! About 40 people came, from little ones and their parents to members of our youth group!” It was a wonderful opportunity for families and parishioners of all ages to come together and enjoy each other’s company.

Mafalda "Muffie" Palumbo Bucci, passed away on July 6, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born January 20, 1927, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to the late Alexander and Anna Palladini Palumbo. She married Michael Domenick Bucci on February 21, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2006.

William P. Grannis, Jr., 79, of South Jefferson Street, died Monday, July 5, 2021 at his residence in New Castle. He was born August 14, 1941 in New Castle, a son of the late William P. Grannis, Sr. and the late Mary (Frabotta) Grannis. He married Patricia J. (Ferro) Grannis on July 5, 1966, she survives in New Castle.

William D. "Billy" Richards Jr., 66, of New Castle passed away on July 4, 2021, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. William was born on Nov. 26, 1954, in New Castle, the son of the late William D. and Jane (Carr) Richards Sr. Billy married Antonetta (Laurenza) Richards in 1976 and she survives him at home.

Angelo L. Ferrazzano, 76, of New Castle died Saturday, July 3, 2021 at UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle. Mr. Ferrazzano was born in Naples, Italy on February 26, 1945, a son of the late Francesco and Maria (Giardullo) Ferrazzano. He married Janis L. Fontana on May 12, 1973, she survives in New Castle.

Joseph S. DeRicco, 59, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of July 1, 2021 at UPMC Jameson. Joe was born in New Castle on November 4, 1961. Joe was married for twenty-five years to his beloved wife, the former Rae Lynn Kloss. She survives at home.

Did you know that there is a National Association of Priest Pilots? It has actually been in existence for over 50 years! And, believe it or not, I am the current president of the group. The purpose of this association is for priests who also share an interest in aviation to come together, enjoy each other’s company, pray, and explore their common hobby and interest in flying. The mission of the group is to provide some assistance to those who actually use aviation in the service of the Catholic faith. Dioceses such as those in Alaska and other parts of the world where aviation is a necessity use pilots to reach the people of the dioceses and to bring them the sacraments.

Congratulations on two firsts for Holy Spirit Parish. Our first Annual Golf Outing was celebrated last Saturday at Castle Hills Golf Course. It was a smashing success! Enormous thanks to Ed and Gina Sharbaugh and their entire team of volunteers including some of our teachers and families and friends who volunteered to make this first annual outing an amazing time of fellowship and fun. All of their hard work raised much-needed revenue to support tuition relief for families in our parish sending their children to Catholic Schools.
