On this first Sunday of Lent, it is my joy to share with you our Parish Pastoral Plan recently developed by our Pastoral Council. As we begin the Lenten season with our personal plans to reform our lives and recommit ourselves to Christ, so as a parish community may we do the same through these strategies and goals. Pauline (DeCarbo) Dambrocia, 101, formerly of E. Lutton St., Shadylane Dr, and Vista South, passed away peacefully February 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Care Center, Guilderland NY. She was the daughter of Paul and Victoria Fazzone DeCarbo. In 1941 she married her husband, Charles (Charlie) J. Dambrocia, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Flora M. Volpe, 98, of Neshannock Township passed away the afternoon of February 21, 2021 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born on August 23, 1922 in New Castle she was the daughter of the late Tony and Marietta Bucci Schepp. On October 25, 1947 Flora married her beloved husband, Albert E. Volpe. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1992.
Agnes Ida Searfoss, 91, former lifelong Bessemer, Pennsylvania, resident died Feb. 18, 2021, at the Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Agnes was born on June 4, 1929, in Bessemer to the late Ludwig and Anna Skuta.
Noah Christopher Vinroe, 28, of Norwood Avenue, died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his residence in New Castle. He was born July 22, 1992 in Butler a son of Dean A. and Susan E. (Mariacher) Vinroe.
Samuel P. Ames, 91, of New Castle passed away the evening of Feb. 18, 2021, at Shenango on the Green Nursing Home. Samuel was born on Aug. 28, 1929, in Ottawa, Illinois. He was the son of the late Walter A. and Alice B. (Parnell) Ames. Samuel was married to the former Helen Tomco. They were married for 65 years.
Carol L. Maciarello, 74, of New Castle passed away the morning of February 17, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born on April 27, 1946 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Ann J. Panella Naples. Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas “Duck” Maciarello, Jr. who she married in October, 1969.
Nick Dan Bloise, 96, of Neshannock Township passed away on February 14, 2021 in Marco Island, FL at the home of his daughter. Nick was born on February 6, 1925 to the late Antonio and Rosa Ippolito Bloise. On August 3, 1949 Nick married his beloved wife, the former Irene Stofcik. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2011.

Father Reginald Russo, OFM Cap., died late Monday night at Shadyside Hospital from post-COVID pneumonia. He entered eternal life in the presence of fellow Capuchin friars, including his older brother, Father Francis X. Russo, who prayed with him as he died. Father Reginald, given the name Carmen at his birth, was born on July 30, 1941, the sixth of seven children born to John and Theresa (Izzo) Russo of Mahoningtown, Pennsylvania.
Michael Samuel Ferrara, Sr., 73 of W. Washington Street in Union Township died Sunday, February 14, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh. Mr. Ferrara was born on May 8, 1947 a son of the late Frank J. and Rose M. (Mattei) Ferrara, Sr. Mr. Ferrara was married to Beverly Ann (Conti) Ferrara on August 17, 1968. She survives in New Castle.
Norma Lee Herno, 83, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of February 12, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian. Norma was born on April 22, 1937, a daughter of the late Herman H. and Virginia Mae (Shook) Monteith in Bushnell, North Carolina. She married Joseph M. Herno on April 9, 1955 in Sylva, NC. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1976.
Teresa A. Nucci, 81, formerly of Neshannock Township, passed away in the early morning of February 7, 2021 at Brookdale Chambrel Roswell Senior Living in Roswell, GA. Born in Hillsville on October 26, 1939, Teresa was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Tutino) Gallo. Preceding her in death on July 30, 1999 was her loving husband of 37 years, Anthony G. Nucci.
Mary M. (Recheck-Ronan) Smolinski, age 71, of 2971 Acre Road New Castle, passed away peacefully the evening of Feb. 8, 2021, at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh, with her loving husband, daughter and son-in-law by her side. Mary was born March 1, 1949, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette (Klabon) Recheck as well as her stepfather, Thomas B. Ronan. Mary was married to David J. Smolinski for 49 years. He survives at their home.
As you know, this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season. The liturgies for Wednesday are as follows: 7:00 am: Mass at St. Vitus 9:00 am: Mass at St. Camillus and St. Vitus 12 Noon: Mass at St. Mary 4:00 pm: Service with Ashes at St. Mary 7:00 pm: Mass at St. Camillus and St. Vitus. COVID-19 restrictions apply at all locations.
Last week, we celebrated Catholic Schools Week. We are very blessed to have Holy Spirit Academy in our parish. It is the only surviving Catholic elementary school in all of Lawrence County. Many of our former parishes had their own schools. This makes Holy Spirit Academy all the more precious. Since we are all one parish now, we all can benefit from this singular school.
Robert E. "Bob" Romano, 84, of Hillsville, passed away suddenly at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle on Feb. 2, 2021. Bob was born in New Castle on Jan. 10, 1937, to the late Anthony Sr. and Florence Robb Romano.
Agnes L. ”Aggie” Noga-Smith, 93, of Sheridan Ave., New Castle, passed away the afternoon of February 1, 2021 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Agnes was born September 18, 1927 to the late Michael and Barbara Janovick Keyso. Agnes was married to her first husband, Raymond T. “Sharkey” Noga for over 30 years. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1993. She then married Frank T. Smith, they were married for over 10 years, and he preceded her in death on October 23, 1993.
