Veronica M. Costello, 74, of Neshannock Township passed away the evening of January 20, 2022 in Stuart, Florida. Veronica Costello, known to family and friends as "Ronnie", was born on October 3, 1947 a daughter of Vito and Helen Pionati Giorgio. On April 11, 1981, she married her beloved husband, Richard, who preceded her in death on July 26, 2020. Veronica is now happily back in his arms.
Veronica survived non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for over 10 years after receiving a stem cell transplant in 2012. She worked at Union Area High School as an English teacher for 35 years, retiring in 2006. She taught 12th grade English, along with a number of other courses during her tenure.
Veronica enjoyed crocheting and cooking, and she was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed visiting casinos, but her greatest joy was the time she spent with her late husband, Richard. She is survived by one brother, Gerald George (Betty), two sisters, Linda George (Larry Marshall) and Helen Gajda, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nephew, Christopher George and brother-in-law, Leonard Gajda.
Visitation will be on Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 1:15 p.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Benjamin Barr will officiate. Entombment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
Eternal rest grant unto Veronica, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
