Verna L. Fabian, 92, of New Castle passed away on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at the Jameson Care Center. Verna was born in New Castle on August 24, 1930, to the late Evelyn (Cherby) Scarazzo and Nicholas Scarazzo. She married Albert Fabian on October 10, 1975 who preceded her in death on February 15, 2006.
Verna was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Westminster College in 1952. She received a Master of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Verna began her teaching career at Lincoln-Garfield School in New Castle and then joined the staff at New Castle High School teaching business education courses for a total of 39 years. She was beloved by all her students and was often invited to their class reunions.
Verna is survived by her niece Evelyn (Timothy) Moist of Harrisburg and nephews, Donald (Maureen) Scarazzo of Harrisburg, James (Lisa) Scarazzo of Lorton, VA, and Raymond Scarazzo of Liverpool, PA. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Norma Scarazzo.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25th, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus Church. Father Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Verna, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
