Verna J. Yaro, 101, passed away peacefully at the Avalon Nursing Center on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Verna was born on Feb. 4, 1920, in Chewton. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine (Wolowicz) Vansovich. Verna was married to the late Stanley C. Yaro. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Yaro was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul site. She worked for more than 25 years as a finisher at Shenango China and was also a homemaker. Verna a former member of St. Philip and James Church Altar Society, as well as a member of the Polish National Alliance. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and bird watching. She also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. She will be remembered for being a great homemaker, cook and taking care of everyone in her family.
Verna is survived by her sons, Stanley R. (Linda) Yaro of Venice, Florida, and Raymond A. (Colleen) Yaro of Ellwood City; sister, Agnes "Tootsie" Mohr of Chewton; grandchildren, Karen (Neil) Bryant, Brian Yaro and Renee (Dean) Yaro-Parry, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Yaro was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Anthony and Joseph Vansovich; and three sisters, Mary Ann Kurcon, Helen Syglowski and Lucille Vansovich.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church. The Rev. Anthony Sciarappa, parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will take place at SS. Phillip and James Cemetery.
