Valentine S. Oddi, 79, passed away the morning of August 31, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born November 9, 1943, in New Castle, he was a son and youngest of six children of Marcello and Mary (Froello) Oddi.
He attended Mahoning School and New Castle High School. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam Era and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He was a career salesman and a proprietor of rental properties in New Castle. Val was never married, but found joy being with family and caring about loved ones to the extent of being the sole caregiver for his older brother. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars, and family picnics. He was an avid gun collector and would bring the watermelon and fireworks to our 4th of July gatherings and when he visited, he was never empty handed. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Val is survived by one brother, Fred Oddi (PA), three sisters, Jean (Oddi) Magnone (PA), Betty (Oddi) Pallerino (California), and Mary Lou (Oddi) Kawafuchi (Nevada).
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Andrew Oddi and Albert Oddi.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Blessing Service will be celebrated Friday, September 8, 2023 at 12:00 Noon by Fr. Ben Barr of Holy Spirit Parish in the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. He will be laid to rest at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Val, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
