Thomas W. Petrovitch, 85, of 215 E Madison Ave. New Castle passed away the morning of January 13, 2023 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Thomas was born November 16, 1937 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Zapasnik) Petrovitch. Thomas married the former Rose Marie Effinite on November 17, 1962. They were married for 60 years.
Mr. Petrovitch was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy. He retired after 29 years of service at the former Universal Rundle Corporation. A devout Catholic and member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent De Paul site, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. Thomas volunteered on many committees helping with the fish fries, bizarre, nut roll and pierogies benefits. Mr. Petrovitch was an avid hunter and fisherman, he belonged to several bowling and golf leagues for years. He enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers and Penguins. His greatest joy was spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Rose Marie, Thomas is survived by three children, Catherine A. Petrovitch, Stephen T. (Melissa) Petrovitch, and Janine M. (Brad) Smiley all of New Castle; sister-in-Law, Delores L. Petrovitch of New Castle; four grandsons, Greg S. Hickok, Jr., Joshua M. Montgomery, Nicholas A. Smiley, and Cameron M. Smiley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Houlette; and his brother, Donald Petrovitch.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 Mill Street. Additional hours will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Honors for Thomas at 10:15 am in the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:45 am for Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Benjamin Barr, Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish, will officiate. Rite of Committal and Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Thomas, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
