Thomas “Duck” Maciarello, Jr., 78, of New Castle passed away the evening of September 29, 2023 at UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh. Born in New Castle on August 25, 1945, Tom was the son of the late Thomas A. Maciarello, Sr. and Helen Tardelli Maciarello. Tom married the former Carol L. Naples in October 1969. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2021.
After working for forty-four years for the New Castle Fire Department, (1969-2013), Tom retired as the New Castle Fire Chief. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. He also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves.
Tom was known as a great cook. He loved cooking for family and friends and his fellow fire fighters. He also enjoyed going to different restaurants, visiting casinos and playing cards. A loving father and grandfather, Tom’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his son, Jason Maciarello (Alexis); his brother, James Maciarello, his companion, Susan Cumberledge; two grandchildren, Jocelyn and Jason Anthony, Jr. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Maciarello.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Benjamin Barr will officiate. Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Tom, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
