Michael R. (Mickey) Russo, 93, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of March 14, 2021 at UPMC Jameson. Born on October 14, 1927 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Michael A. and Margaret Barr Russo. Mickey is survived by his beloved wife, the former Geraldine Sarbo, who he married on August 5, 1950.
Mickey had worked for Johnson Bronze for thirty-eight years in the shipping department and as a supervisor. He then worked for the New Castle Area School District in the maintenance department. In the later years, Mickey worked for Hovis Auto Parts as a parts delivery driver. Mickey had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site.
Mickey was a member of the Sons of Italy, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he was the former President and Secretary. He enjoyed doing woodworking and fixing and tinkering with things. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mickey’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mickey is survived by his children, Debbie Mancini (Joseph), Michael R Russo, Jr, and Sheryl Russo-Shepherd all of New Castle, his brother, Vincent Russo of Beaver Falls, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony A. and Francis N. Russo and his daughter-in-law, Jewell (Murdock) Russo.
The family will receive friends on Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites on Friday at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Visitors are required to adhere to CDC guidelines regarding the wearing of face masks and practicing social distancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Entombment will be in the family Mausoleum at St. Vitus Cemetery.
