Sylvia C. Peabody, 102, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of August 15, 2022 at her residence. Born on December 8, 1919 in New Castle, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Bill and Louise DePasquale Caparoula. On July 19, 1945, Sylvia married her beloved husband, John H. Peabody. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1995.
In the early years during WWII, Sylvia worked as a “Rosie the Rivetor” at Johnson Bronze. She later worked at Shenango China as a handle finisher for fourteen years until she retired in 1985. Sylvia was an active lifelong member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. She was a member of Ladies of the Dukes and Shenango Pottery Retirees. Sylvia enjoyed cooking and having people around and visiting with everyone. A loving mother, sister and aunt, Sylvia’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Dorthenia Tuttle (Keith) of New Castle; one son, James W. Peabody (Teresa) of Ocoee, FL; and her step-daughter, June Elderkin of Southport, Maine; her brother, James Caparoula of New Castle; her sister, Nora Robinson of New Castle and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her infant son, John W. Peabody, three brothers, John, Robert and Richard Caparoula, six sisters, Phyllis Yeropoli, Theresa Suzow, Julia Schofield, Mary Scully, Gilda Jackson and Adeline Scully.
Visitation will be on Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
Eternal rest grant unto Sylvia, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
