Sophie Jereb, 88, of 12 11th St., Bessemer, Pennsylvania, passed away the morning of Dec. 30, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Sophie was born Nov. 13, 1933, in New Castle, the daughter of William and Mary (Bogdjewicz) Klabon. She was married to Frank Jereb for 66 years. He survives at home.
Mrs. Jereb was Roman Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Parish-St. Anthony site. She attended Shenango High School. Mrs. Jereb will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, sister and Grammy. Sophie was known for her baking, especially her wedding cookies. She loved cooking for her family and going to the casino. She also loved polkas, and she met her husband at a Bessemer Croatian Club dance.
In addition to her husband, Frank, Sophie is survived by her son, James (Linda) Jereb of Murphy, North Carolina; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Gilboy of Freehold, New Jersey; two sisters, Louise (William) Kielar of Poland, Ohio, and Annie (Chester) Warzyla of Twinsburg, Ohio; sister-in-law, Patricia Klabon of New Castle, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Gilboy of Baltimore, Maryland, and Kevin (fiancée Anisha) Gilboy of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Jereb was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph, John, William and Paul Klabon; and four sisters, Agnes Ronan, Mary Murdock, Helen Robosky and Jenny Koprivnak.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle. A Blessing Service will be celebrated following visitation in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Sophie, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
