Romeo David Zarlenga, 93, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Croton Avenue, passed away the evening of Oct. 18, 2022, at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. Born Dec. 6, 1928, in New Castle, Romeo was the son of the late Liberato and Clara DePinto Zarlenga. On May 28, 1955, Romeo married his beloved wife, the former Nellie Rand. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2012.
Romeo worked as a maintenance foreman for 38 years at LTV Steel Seamless Division in Campbell, Ohio. He had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. Romeo was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary site. He loved being outdoors, going for walks, gardening and doing yard work. He also enjoyed being in his garage, building or repairing everything for his family, neighbors and friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Romeo's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Romeo is survived by his children, Barbara Whiteside (Timothy) of Dacula, Georgia; Brenda Becker (David) of Safety Harbor, Florida; and Beverly McConahy (Bill) of Boardman, Ohio; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Romeo was preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Frank Zarlenga; and four sisters, Alice Hay, Carmella Kazenski, Beatrice Fee and Mary DeVitto.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a memorial service. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate.
Eternal rest grant unto Romeo, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
