Rita Mae Smith, 87, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of May 26, 2021, at Shenango on the Green. Born on May 30, 1933 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Jennie Perrotta Venasco. On September 7, 1957, Rita married her beloved husband, Roy A. Smith. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1989.
In the early years, Rita had worked at the Lawrence County Courthouse in the Prothonotary’s Office. She then worked as a Registered Nurse for different doctors’ offices in the New Castle area until she retired.
Rita was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site. She was a member of Ladies of the Dukes. She was also active in Challenges. A loving mother and grandmother, Rita’s true hobby was her family.
Rita is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kendra Smith, her former daughter-in-law, Laurlyn Smith, her granddaughter, Lyndsie M. Smith, several nieces and nephews and one great-nephew and one great niece.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by her son, Randy A. Smith and two brothers, Anthony Venasco and Joseph Venasco.
Visitation will be on Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. Visitors are required to adhere to CDC guidelines regarding the wearing of face masks and practicing social distancing. A procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church at 9:30 a.m. Father Joseph McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
