Rita L. (Barber) Flamino, 86, of Neshannock Township passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023 surrounded by her family at the Haven Convalescent Nursing Home. Born in New Castle on August 2, 1936, Rita was the daughter of the late Alfred “Red” and Virginia Mae Halle Barber. Rita is survived by her beloved husband, Walter R. Flamino, with whom she shared sixty-six years of marriage.
Rita graduated from Poland High School in 1954. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1957. Rita went on to pursue her nursing at St. Francis Hospital in the psychiatric unit for forty-two years. She was valued as not only a wonderful nurse, but a supervisor and co-worker.
Rita was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of Junior Woman’s Club, Jameson Junior Guild and Eintracht Singing Society. Rita also had served as a poll voting attendant for thirty years. Rita enjoyed traveling, especially to Boqueron, Puerto Rico. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Rita was always the first one in for a party or celebration, sipping Margarita’s. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.
In addition to her husband, Rita is survived by her children, Kimberly Aven (Andrew Ferraro), Shari Flamino (Frank Pitelka), Jill Barletto (Angelo); grandchildren, April Rickard (Andrew), Christian Viggiano, Halle Viggiano and Amber Barletto; great-grandchildren, Mila Threats, and Alexandra and Andrew Rickard.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Anthony D. Aven.
Visitation was Thursday 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. A Blessing Service was held on Thursday at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. Father Benjamin Barr of Holy Spirit Parish officiated. Burial was in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
Eternal rest grant unto Rita, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
