Raymond Philip Melcer, 91, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of November 26, 2020 at Paramount Senior Living in Mars, Pa. Born on December 1, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late John and Valeria Podobinski Melcer. Raymond had married his beloved wife, the former Concetta Ann “Dolly” Alfano, on November 28, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2015.
Raymond served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War Era. He earned a graduate degree from Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. He was a longtime local musician. He had served as the former Choir Director for St. Vitus Church and worked as a music teacher for New Castle and Union area schools. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site.
Raymond was a member of the Knights of Columbus Local 512, Polish Falcons and the New Castle Rotary Club. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. A loving father and grandfather, Raymond’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
Raymond is survived by his children, Brian Melcer and his wife, Melanie, of New Castle, Valerie Ostrowski and her husband, James, of Allison Park, Pa, granddaughter, Meagan Hoellerman and her husband, Todd, two grandsons, Michael Ostrowski and John Ostrowski.
In addition to his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Melcer, two brothers, Edward and Stanley Melcer, and five sisters, Maryann Melcer, Stella Melcer, Clara Klamut, Valeria Klamut and Sister Raymond Melcer (Sister of the Holy Ghost).
Due to the current health crises within our community, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Entombment will be in Castle View Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
