Phyllis L. Morici, 89, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of August 15, 2020 at UPMC Jameson. Born on August 11, 1931 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Edith M. Delisio Russo. Phyllis married Samuel C. Morici on June 19, 1954. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1991.
A graduate from the former St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, Phyllis was a registered nurse employed by the hospital for forty years. She loved her profession. She served as a staff nurse at first, then as the head nurse on a men’s medical surgical unit from August 1966 to December 1982. Phyllis then set up and was in charge of the telemetry unit on 4-South for many years. In 1989, she worked in Short Stay Surgery and retired on June 1, 1993. Before her husband’s death, they enjoyed traveling overseas. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Phyllis also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and scrapbooking.Phyllis was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus site.
Phyllis is survived by her sister-in-law, Marlene Russo, nieces, Phyllis Dougherty and Deena M. Russo, her nephew, William Russo and his wife Gina, great nephews, Michael Dougherty and Gregory Dougherty, great nieces Julianna Dougherty, Evelyse Rodriguez, Laura Russo and great-nephew, Joey Russo and five great- great- nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, William L. Russo.
Due to the current health situation within our community, a private visitation will be held at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be mailed to Holy Spirit Parish, 910 S. Mercer St., New Castle PA 16101. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
