Philip E. Black, 93, of Youngstown, Ohio passed away the morning of December 5, 2022. He was born on December 21, 1928 in New Castle to the late Elmer and Clara Carrigan Black. Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, the former Antoinette Centofanto.
An electrician by trade, in the early years Philip worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube. He then worked for LTV Steel and Casey Equipment Inc. Philip Proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, serving with the 351st Infantry. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, going hunting and fishing. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Philip’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
Philip is survived by his children, Terry Black (Sheri), Karen Basler (Hans), Colleen Nader, Kathy Brennaman (Kevin), Bob Centofanto and Anthony Centofanto (Lynn); his brother, Daniel Black and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Philip was preceded in death by his brother, James Black, and two sisters, Margaret Janis and Patricia Mort.
Honoring his wishes, the service is private and will be held at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Rites at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Pius X Church Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Pa.
Eternal rest grant unto Philip, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
