Peter J. Leonard, 84, of Neshannock Township passed away the evening of July 28, 2023 at Nightingale Nursing Center in Erie, PA. Born on January 1, 1939, Peter was the first baby to be born in Lawrence County that year. He was the son of the late Frank and Mary Ann White Leonard.
Peter worked for many years as a railroad brakeman for Penn Central/Conrail. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Peter had attended Youngstown State University and was a member of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity and continued to be in contact and friends with many of his fraternity brothers. Peter especially enjoyed their annual trip to Ft. Lauderdale for the “Florida Splash”. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying Shakespeare and writing poetry.
When he was younger, Peter enjoyed playing sports. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. Peter also enjoyed going to the racetrack and visiting casinos and was an exercise enthusiast.
Peter is survived by his brother, Frank Leonard (Julie) of Erie, PA; three sisters, Ann Perrotti (John), Rachel Conkle and Mary Christopher (Al), all of New Castle; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Honoring his wishes there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus Church. Father Aaron Kriss will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.
Eternal rest grant unto Peter, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
