Pauline M. Elko, 92, of New Castle passed away the morning of June 18, 2020 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born on July 12, 1927 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Fulena Romanio. Pauline was preceded in death by her first husband, John Staransky. She was later preceded in death by her second husband, Joseph A. Elko.
Pauline had worked as a presser for both Cy’s One Hour Dry Cleaning and Colia Cleaners.
She was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish. Pauline had organized the Golden Agers Club at the church. As a member of their Ladies Guild she had made many nut rolls over the years.
Pauline was an avid bingo player. She enjoyed visiting casinos and baking. Pauline was Loved By All. She was always recognized at the Fulena/Fuleno Family Reunions as the Matriarch of the family and oldest family member. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Pauline’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family. She will be sadly missed by all.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Judy Gaus, and her husband, Karl, of New Castle, her grandchildren, Joe Gaus and his wife, Sara, Paula Szklinski and her husband, Greg, and her two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Caden.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, Pauline was preceded in death by her daughter, Pauline Staransky and two brothers, Carmen D. Romanio and his wife, Lyda, and Donald Romanio and his wife, Norma.
Visitation will be on Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. Visitors are asked to adhere to CDC guide lines regarding wearing face masks and using social distancing. A procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. for a
Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church at 11:30 a.m. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
