Paul A. Zarilla, 97, of Neshannock Twp. passed away with his daughters by his side late Monday evening, April 15, 2024, in Avalon Springs Place. Mr. Zarilla was born February 7, 1927, in New Castle, a son of the late Peter A. and Wanda (Colchiski) Zarilla. His wife of 54 years, Mary E. (Gibbons) Zarilla, whom he married June 12, 1954, preceded him in death August 16, 2008.
After graduating from New Castle High School in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A WWII veteran, Paul served in the Pacific Theatre of Operation aboard the U.S.S. Sherburne APA-205. Following his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Westminster College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1950. Paul retired from the PA Department of Public Welfare where he had worked as a social worker for more than 25 years. He previously worked for Liberty Mutual in New Castle. Paul was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle, St. Camillus worship site.
Paul is survived by three daughters, Kathy Zarilla (Doug Darr), of Timberlake, NC; Lauri Zarilla, of Murrysville, PA; and Nancy Zarilla, of Mt. Lebanon, PA; two grandchildren, Rachel Darr and Benjamin Darr; and three great-grandchildren, Enrique, Julien, and Lucy.
In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Zarilla.
In keeping with his wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Camillus Church, officiated by Fr. Joseph McCaffrey, will be held privately. Interment: St. Lucy Cemetery, Mahoningtown.
Eternal rest grant unto Paul, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
