Paul A. Fazzone, 89, of New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born on January 25, 1934, to the late Humbert A. and Rose (Biondi) Fazzone of New Castle. Paul was the devoted and beloved husband of Sylvia (Strizzi) Fazzone with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
A 1951 graduate of New Castle High School and a 1955 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Paul entered college at the age of 17 and finished the 5-year engineering program in 4 years, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
From 1955 to 1957, he served in the Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade while stationed on the USS Oriskany based out of Alameda, CA. After his 2-year tour of duty in Japan, he was honorably discharged and began a successful 37-year career at Pennsylvania Power Company, retiring as Manager of Transmission and Distribution Engineering.
Following his retirement from the utility company and, given his vibrant math mind, he spent 10 years with H&R Block as a tax preparer. He ultimately opened his own business “Paul’s Tax Service” where he focused on helping seniors prepare their taxes. Paul was a devout Catholic and spent years as a volunteer at his parish, now Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus de Lellis site.
Paul was admired for his keen intellect, encyclopedic knowledge of facts and figures, and ability to solve any problem or puzzle put before him. He was the ultimate DIY-er with an impressive collection of tools. We will miss his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and wry smile.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas P. Fazzone and sister, Venetia F. D’Amato, both of New Castle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by Aleta (and her partner John Ledbetter) of Venice, FL, and Jeffrey (and his partner Erin Breen) of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment will be private, with a Celebration of Life to be held later this summer. A private service at the funeral home was officiated by Fr. Ben Barr of Holy Spirit Parish and the military guard provided honors.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Please refer to the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home website www.decarbofh.com for further information once the date for the Celebration of Life has been confirmed.
Eternal rest grant unto Paul, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
