Nicholas F. Kliem Jr., 81, of 315 Roberts Lane, New Castle, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away at his home on Oct. 2, 2023. He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Nick and Frances (Skocic) Kliem. Nick married Mary Jane Quarella on Sept. 27, 1969 and they recently celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Nick graduated from Mohawk High School in 1959 and was drafted into the United States Army on Feb. 1, 1964, in Fort Lewis, Washington. Serving in Battery B 4th Artillery Company, he achieved the rank of PFC/E-3 by March 30, 1965. Nick received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged on Feb. 10, 1970, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Following his military service, Nick worked for several decades in the Forge Department at the former Rockwell International. Later, he became a bus driver for Neshannock Township School District.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, hunting and golfing, proudly achieving a hole-in-one. Nick was also passionate about coaching Little League Baseball and he looked forward to Sunday breakfasts with his golfing buddies. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish-St. Camillus site.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane; two sons, David S. (Connie) Kliem of Fairview, Pennsylvania, and Christian J. Kliem (Heidi Holland) of New Castle; four brothers, Tommy Kliem of New Middletown, Ohio, Eddie (Marsha) Kliem of Toledo, Ohio, Jimmy (Karen) Kliem of Wexford, Pennsylvania, and John (Mary) Kliem of Bessemer, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Alec, Madison and Aiden Kliem; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his two sisters-in-law, JoAnne Kliem and Barbara Kahrer.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle. A Blessing Service will be held at 4:00 pm in the funeral home. Rev. Benjamin Barr, parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Parish, will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Nick at 5:45 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Castleview Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Nick, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
