Michael H. Data, 68, of New Castle passed away at his residence on Feb. 6, 2020, with his loving family at his side. Michael was born on April 21, 1951, in New Castle. He was a son of the late Matthew and Lottie (Potoczny) Data. Michael was married to the former Darlene M. Hardisky. They were married on Sept. 10, 1977, and she survives at home.
Mr. Data was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul site. He attended Lawrence County Vocational Technical School and graduated from Shenango High School, class of 1969. Following graduation, Michael enlisted in the Navy on June 12, 1969. He served aboard the USS Newport News (CA-148) during the Vietnam War and received many decorations and citations, among them were the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Michael was honorably discharged on March 2, 1973.
Mr. Data retired from the West Pittsburg power plant, formerly known as Penn Power. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Michael was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, who cherished the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Darlene, Michael is survived by three sons, Matthew R. (Lauri) Data, Adam M. (Sarah) Data and Justin J. Data, all of New Castle; four grandchildren, Braden, Ellie, Austin and Eli Data; a brother, Robert (Ruthellen) Data of New Castle; and two sisters, Marilee (Frank) Cratty and Barbara (Joseph) Hasson, both of New Castle. Mr. Data was preceded in death by his parents.
Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 9, 2020, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Michael at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday for Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Joseph McCaffrey, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, will officiate. Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
