The major duty of the Pastoral Council is to collaborate with me on putting forth a pastoral plan for the parish. It is an effort to set a vision and a goal for our community based on our faith and commitment to Christ and one another. The success of the pastoral plan is the willingness of everyone in the community to fully participate.
An attitude that has been so destructive for our country, this community, and our church, is an attitude of “somebody should do something about that.” This is an attitude where a person sees problems but embraces no responsibility to correct the problems. They only think that someone else is responsible to make life better. They accept no responsibility themselves. They want to blame everyone else for the problems in the world, but they, themselves, will not lift one finger to make life better, for themselves or anyone else. Not accepting personal responsibility to make life better is not only debilitating, but also destructive.
As a parish community of Holy Spirit, we are ALL responsible to do our part to form a parish that is pleasing to Christ and faithfully carries out His will. This beautiful prayer provided by a Pastoral Council member is an antidote to the disease that is plaguing our country and community. Please join me in praying this prayer and being open to God’s grace to actually live it. If all of us did so, what a difference to our community it would be.
The Pastoral and Finance Councils will meet on October 29 with a representative from the Diocese reviewing our process moving forward. Please keep all of us in your prayers and continue to pray the prayer provided renewing your own responsibility to be an active disciple of Jesus Christ.
Next Saturday at 9:30 am at St. Joseph the Worker Church, we will celebrate a special Mass remembering all our loved ones who passed during this year. May our Faith in the Resurrection give us consolation and peace.
