Holy Spirit Academy is partnering with the Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools in Hermitage, PA. The elementary school is Saint John Paul II. The principal, Mrs. Kathryn Tiefenthal, and Mrs. Nicole Perry, Director of Enrollment Management, will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, May 4th at 6:00 pm: RSVP to Nicole Perry at 724-734-8980. I encourage all parents of Holy Spirit Parish with elementary-age children to please go to the Open House or arrange a visit to the school sometime soon. This is an amazing opportunity for all our families with children to receive an exceptional Catholic Education near home. Transportation is currently available and is being enhanced depending on enrollment from our area. With the closing of Holy Spirit Academy, we pledge to provide tuition relief for any of our students enrolling in Catholic Education from Kindergarten to 6th Grade. After they secure all possible financial assistance, the parish will commit up to $2,000 towards their tuition balance.
As you are well aware, we have tried everything we could possibly do to make Holy Spirit Academy a viable school for the future. There are just some insurmountable obstacles that are beyond our control.
I am truly grateful to our teachers for their many years of dedicated service and to Mr. Ed Sharbaugh for taking on the challenge as principal these past two years in an attempt to turn the school around. I am also very grateful to our advisory board of the school: Jean Pascale, David Prestopine, Dr. Franny Jo Serenka, Jodi Russo, Leanna Litrenta, Vanessa Kuczynski, Marty McGonigle, Tim Bobosky, Elizabeth Yanelli Shreckengost, Fr. Brendan Dawson and Ed Sharbaughfor their dedicated and unwavering service to the teachers, students, and families f Holy Spirit Parish.
Many of the stakeholders—parents, teachers, board members, our Finance and Pastoral Council members—have all voiced their support for this partnership and what it can mean for Catholic Education in Lawrence County. We are crossing county and diocesan lines to make this happen and that we are pledging to have our money follow our children proves that our priority is not self-interest but truly providing Catholic Education for our community for years to come! I am extremely grateful to Mark Ferrara, President of Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools, for his warm welcome and his diligent efforts to make our partnership truly a partnership not only in words but in truth. He welcomes our parents’ participation on their boards and advisory councils. He welcomes our priests to visit the schools on a regular basis and participate in the life of the school. Please join me in praying prayers of thanksgiving to God for this blessing. The blessing of all that Holy Spirit Academy and St. Vitus School have been to our community over these many, many years, and also the continued blessing of God that this new venture will provide for generations to come.
