The three Masses currently being held in the parking lot of the former Sears building in Union Township have served over 2,000 per weekend. We've been blessed with good weather except one Saturday afternoon when a storm forced the cancellation of the 4 pm Mass. For now, Masses there will continue through July. There is a new signal allowing the sound of the Mass to come through your car radio. Tune in through 90.3 FM.
Having Masses indoors is a challenge requiring advance planning due to stringent Covid-19 restrictions. Buildings are not as safe as a parking lot service and are very limited in the number of people who can come. Mass in a church building is limited to 25% of the building capacity. This means less than 200 may attend an indoor service at a large church. We do not want to have to turn anyone away because the church is full. Services are available for funerals, weddings and baptisms because only small numbers of people attend. With the rise of Covid-19 again, we are being cautious for the well-being of our parishioners.
Currently, in addition to weekend parking lot Masses, Mass is available at St. Vitus on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. Small numbers attend so no one is turned away. Live streaming of Mass is available every day on the website and YouTube. Priests, deacons and religious are serving the parish as best we can through sick calls and celebrating sacraments as needed with those who ask us to come.
