MaryAnn C. DeCarbo Alinsky, 78, of Pittsburgh passed away the morning of Oct. 11, 2020. Born on Oct. 16, 1941, in New Castle, she was the daughter of James E. and Marian J. Casbarro DeCarbo. On Oct. 24, 1980, she married Walter J. Alinsky. He survives.
In her early years, she worked for Joseph's Supermarket. Later, she worked for ALSAC/St Jude's Hospital, Woodville Hospital, and then until her retirement, Mayview State Hospital. She was a very active member of St. Basil Church and its Mothers group. She volunteered and fundraised for South Hills Bark for Life and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. MaryAnn was known for her baking and her cookie tables at weddings and other events were nothing short of amazing! She also loved spending time with her family and friends. There was never a party, reunion, or holiday that she wasn't a part of!
MaryAnn is survived by her husband, Walt; her brother and sister-in law, Anthony "Bo" and Sandy DeCarbo of New Castle; sister-in-law, Jean Schmidt of West Deer Township; niece and nephews, Natalie DeCarbo (Michael Malley) of New Castle, AJ and Heather DeCarbo of Gibsonia and Lee and Brooke Schmidt of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by her great-nieces and nephews, AJ, Darrek, and Hannah Schmidt, Marin Dolquist and Scarlett DeCarbo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by many dear cousins and friends. A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 20 at St Vitus Church of Holy Spirit Parish. If you attend, all CDC guidelines will be followed. Masks must be worn and social distancing rules apply.
Lord God, you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Give MaryAnn eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on her forever. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
