Mary P. Krupa, 98, of New Castle passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 2021, in Avalon Place. Mrs. Krupa was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Springfield Township (Mercer County), a daughter of the late James and Sophia (Mierzwa) Gargasz.
Primarily a homemaker, she loved cooking and caring for her family. She was also an avid traveler. Mary traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad through Europe and Asia with her son, Henry, whom she also spent her winters with in Florida. Mary was a longtime member of the former Madonna Roman Catholic Church, Union Township (Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary site). She certainly enjoyed life, and especially loved attending polka festivals to dance and listen to the music.
Her beloved husband of 61 years, Henry J. Krupa Sr., preceded her in death in 2002.
Mary is survived by her son, Henry J. Krupa Jr., New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and a sister, Helen Corner (Thomas), Strongsville, Ohio.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella (Frank) Barcheck and Jeanette (Chester) Schepp; and four brothers, John Gargasz (Mary), Frank Gargasz (Anne), Edward Gargasz (Clara) and George Gargasz (Mary).
A graveside memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Interment will be in Madonna Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
On August 5, 2022, her birthday, Mary Krupa's remains were laid to rest in Madonna Cemetery in a memorial service by her family and officiated by Dr. Joseph Ross of Holy Spirit Parish.
Eternal rest grant unto Mary, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
