Mary K. Schenkel of New Castle, passed peacefully at home under hospice care on Friday afternoon, April 8, 2022, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Grove City, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Bumbaco) Trepasso. She married William T. Schenkel on May 25, 1974.
She was a graduate of Grove City High School. Following High School, Mary finished her medical courses at New Castle Business School. For many years, Mary worked at the front desk of the Holiday Inn, New Castle. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary site, in New Castle.
Mary was a competitive bowler and traveled to competitions during her younger years. She enjoyed going to Pirate games and country concerts. She was an outstanding cook of Italian Cuisine. Mary loved her collection of collectible baby dolls. She had a deep love for her two Persian cats, Abby and Angle, and her beautiful collie, Sugar.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” at home; four grandchildren, Roxanne, Dawn, Jason, and Jeffery, and many grandchildren, all of Columbus; a nephew, Charles “Skip” Werner and wife, Connie, Venice, FL; and two nieces, Julie Werner, Clarksburg, PA, and Dora Burkett, Indiana, PA.
Her parents, a daughter, Debra Snowden, a sister, Julia Werner, and eight brothers, Frank, Carmen, John Sr., Joseph, William, Thomas, Rudolph, and Ralph Trepasso, preceded Mary in death.
Visitation hours will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City from 4 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church officiated by Fr. Rick Thompson.
Eternal rest grant unto Mary, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
