Mary Catherine “Mary Kay” Soriano, 100, of New Castle passed away the morning of November 4, 2023 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born in Midland, PA on March 1, 1923, Mary Kay was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Genevie Fusco. On June 5, 1946, Mary Kay married her beloved husband, Eugene Soriano who preceded her in death on August 5, 2014.
Mary Kay attended Slippery Rock University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Nursing and then went on to receive her Masters at Westminster College. She worked as an Instructor and Director of Nursing at the former St. Francis Hospital, Jameson Hospital, and Lawrence County Vo-Tech until her retirement.
Mary Kay was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. She was also a member of PSERS and PASR. Mary Kay enjoyed being outdoors, going for walks, swimming and doing water exercises, and golfing. She also enjoyed writing short stories and poems and crocheting. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Kay’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.
Mary Kay is survived by her children, Eugene Soriano (Kathy), Frances Balla, and Mary Kaye, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Chauncey and James Fusco and Father Blaise of MCap and one sister, Elizabeth Claroni.
Visitation will be on Wednesday 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Aaron Kriss will officiate. Interment will be in Parkside Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Eternal rest grant unto Mary Kay, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
