Margaret C. Vellone, 75, of 422 E. Fairmont Ave., passed away peacefully the afternoon of March 22, 2022, at UPMC Avalon Nursing Home. Margie was born July 22, 1946, in New Castle to the late Rudolph V. Vellone and Mary (Nocera) Vellone.
Ms. Vellone was a member of Holy Spirit Parish—St Vitus site and a 1964 graduate of New Castle High School. She continued her education at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, earning an associate's degree in early childhood education. Ms. Vellone had 13 years of service as a teacher at Lawrence County Head Start, where she made a difference in the lives of many children, then went on to a career at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where she retired after 20 years of service.
Margie enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, puzzle books, crocheting, arts and crafts and ceramics. She loved to sing and dance. She had an incredibly beautiful smile and a laugh that was pure joy. She also made the best pizza and pepperoni rolls in town. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family and friends, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married to Russell J. Mingione Sr. for nearly 25 years and was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her three children.
Margie is survived by her two sons, Russell J. (Tammy) Mingione of New Castle and Joseph W. (John) Mingione of St Petersburg, Florida; daughter, Denise M. Baer of New Castle; two sisters, Maria (Ralph) Fair and Jeanie Picarro, both of New Castle; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her sister, Carmie Carusone; and brother, Rudolph V. Vellone Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S Mill St., New Castle. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Saturday for Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Benjamin Barr of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Eternal rest grant unto Margie, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
