Louis Carkitto, 94, of New Castle went to be with the Lord the morning of April 7, 2023. Lou was born on September 9, 1928 in New Castle PA. Lou was raised in the family of the late Giovanni and Antonia DiMasi Carkitto, along with his four sisters and one brother.
He went to school at New Castle High School and received additional education at Youngstown State University. Lou never married. As he made his way through life, he worked at Universal Rundle and Columbus Services in New Castle. Lou later made his home in Vail, Colorado where he worked for Mercury Management and Vail Associates The Ski Company.
Lou had proudly served his country as a member of the United State Army. He was very active in sports, having played baseball, basketball and racquetball. He also enjoyed playing golf and tennis and bicycle riding in the mountains of Colorado and snow skiing in the winter. Lou moved back to New Castle in 2000 to spend the rest of his life with his family.
Lou is survived by his sister, Joanne Candiello of Cranberry Township, PA, twenty nieces and nephews, about fifty great-nieces and nephews and many more great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his brother, Valentino “Vundy” Carkitto, three sisters, Stella Richards, Mary DiMuccio and Yolanda DiRaimo and two nephews, Albert DiMuccio and Michael DiRaimo.
Visitation was Wednesday, April 12th, 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard performed military rites at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Blessing Service at 5:00 p.m. officiated by Father Aaron Kriss of Holy Spirit Parish. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Lou, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
