Louis A. Palmiro, 93, of Mahoningtown passed away the evening of January 2, 2020 at Rhodes Estates. Born on February 25, 1926 in Mahoningtown, Pa. he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Nocera Palmiro. On January 28, 1950 Lou married his beloved wife, the former Rose A. Samiac. She preceded him in death on August 11, 1998.
Lou had worked as a Millwright for twentynine and a half years at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until he retired. Lou was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St Vincent de Paul Site where he had been a former server. He had also been an usher at the former St. Lucy Church. He had served his country as a member of the United States Navy, during World War II. Lou had been a member of the former Christopher Columbus Club. He was an avid Pittsburg Steeler fan. Lou also enjoyed cooking and gardening, but his greatest joy was attending the local sports games that his son, Joseph officiated.
Lou is survived by his son, Joseph Palmiro of New Castle, his niece, Connie Graham, three great nephews and two great-great nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lou was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Palmiro, sister, Constance Sandora, his nephew, William Palmiro, niece, Mary Jane Palmiro and nephew, Patsy Sandora.
Visitation will be on Monday 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Victor Molka, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
