Lena Mastrangelo, 104, of New Castle passed away the morning of November 5, 2021 at her residence. Born in Hubbard, Ohio on November 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Rose Carranghi Perrotta. On August 1, 1936, Lena married her beloved husband, Frank H. “Cheech” Mastrangelo. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1995.
In her early years, Lena worked at Shenango China as a designer in the Gold Room. She then worked at St. Francis Hospital in the kitchen and later at Castle Brand Meats. Lena was an active and devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. Lena enjoyed going to Bingo and visiting casinos. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother Lena’s life passion was spending time with and taking care of her family.
Lena is survived by her children, Theresa Moses, John F. (Dolly) Mastrangelo, Rosemary Banko and Louis G. Mastrangelo, all of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren, Joseph Moses, Frank (Brenda) Moses, Edward (Joanne) Moses, Dr. Mark (Diane) Moses, George (Gina) Moses, Luann (Don) Cade, Dr. Deborah Mastrangelo, Christine (Christopher) Watt, Michelle (Travis) Cook, Theresa (Kevin) Seelbaugh, Greg (Rachel) Mastrangelo, Alicia (Kenny) Rogers and Francesca Mastrangelo; twenty six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lena was preceded in death by her step-mother, Thomasina Perrotta, two sons-in law, David Banko and Edward J. Moses, her sister, Theresa DiBiase.
Visitation is private for the family and will be held at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Lena’s nephew, Father Nicholas Mastrangelo, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
