What a blessed way to celebrate our parish’s Feast Day of Pentecost Sunday as we witness the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our young people in the Sacrament of Confirmation! We welcome Bishop David Bonnar of the Youngstown Diocese as the celebrant for two Confirmation ceremonies this Sunday. We pray that our confirmandi will receive the fullest gifts of the Holy Spirit and in doing so will become very involved in the life of our parish!
Thank you to all who participated in the results of our Feasibility Study which was presented on June 2nd. If you would like to view a copy of this study, a video is available on our website hsplc.org and also on YouTube.
We invite all of our parishioners to be informed by watching the video presentation and to prayerfully consider the information available. It is on the basis of all of this research and study that we are making the necessary decisions to move forward as a parish family. We wanted to be able to give you a chance to pray and reflect on the information so we have scheduled a time to gather and listen to your thoughts and concerns as we move forward. The listening session with the Pastoral and Finance Councils as well as the pastoral team and the professionals who did the Feasibility Study along with representatives from the Diocese will be held on Thursday, June 9th at 6:30 pm in the Holy Spirit Parish Center at 117 N. Beaver St., New Castle, 16101.
We encourage all to listen to the presentation of the Feasibility Study before coming to the listening session. This session will be conducted according to the rules of Pope Francis’ Synod on Synodality. We will be listening and seeking guidance and direction from the Holy Spirit, keeping in mind the goal of our parish to live the faith and pass the faith on to the next generation. All of our material resources are intended for this higher purpose. They are not an end in and of themselves.
On this Feast of Pentecost, we remember the birthday of the Catholic Church. It is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that makes us a faith community.
