Congratulations on two firsts for Holy Spirit Parish. Our first Annual Golf Outing was celebrated last Saturday at Castle Hills Golf Course. It was a smashing success! Enormous thanks to Ed and Gina Sharbaugh and their entire team of volunteers including some of our teachers and families and friends who volunteered to make this first annual outing an amazing time of fellowship and fun. All of their hard work raised much-needed revenue to support tuition relief for families in our parish sending their children to Catholic Schools.
Our second first annual event took place this week: Vacation Bible School: Set Sail with the Holy Trinity and St. Patrick. A huge thank you to Kathy Gabriel, Justin Venasco and crew as well as our parish staff for making this fun, learning time for our children possible. Over 90 children were registered! We look forward to next year’s Vacation Bible School which will be even bigger and better!
This is an exciting time as we recover from the pandemic and also begin new traditions as one parish—Holy Spirit— for Lawrence County. I am personally very grateful to all of our staff and volunteers who work so hard to bring our parish together and build community. Our next new, exciting annual tradition will be our Parish Picnic. On September 12th, all of Holy Spirit Parish is invited to gather together at Cascade Park for Outdoor Mass and Activities and Games for all ages.
The purpose of this picnic is to thank God first of all for seeing us through these difficult times of COVID-19. Equally important, to gather and enjoy each other’s company, renew old friendships and make new ones. Instead of having a festival this year on the heels of a pandemic, we wanted to do something new. Instead of coming together to work on another fundraising project like the festival, we decided, let’s just gather and relax and enjoy being a parish family! So that is the point and purpose of our first annual Parish Picnic as Holy Spirit. Let us gather in the spirit of all that makes us holy, give thanks to God, and celebrate our faith and fellowship in Him and with one another.
Planning is underway to build an event that has fun for all. Among the highlights of the picnic are: Mass to welcome everyone, the Red Coat Band, the Dorals, Children’s & Adult Games, a Cornhole Tournament, a Car Show, Hayrides, Food Trucks, Italian Ice, Paint the Holy Spirit, Golf Carts to assist the handicapped—and other ideas still coming!
