This weekend, we celebrate one of the most important doctrines and truths of our faith, that the Holy Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Savior Jesus Christ! This solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, or Corpus Christi, renews our Catholic faith and truly makes us one with the living Lord.
If there was ever a time in our history when Catholics throughout the world need to review and renew our faith in the Holy Eucharist, it is now. Two years of a pandemic which forced many to only view Mass over the internet and prevented them from receiving our blessed Lord in the sacrament has caused some to fall away from making the effort to return to worshipping our Lord in person. Viewing the Mass through technology may be convenient and also much appreciated when one is prevented, for serious reasons, from attending Mass in person, but it should never become a routine substitute for receiving the blessed sacrament in person.
There is a crisis in our church today and our world, of course, on many levels. But for Catholics, the serious decline in awareness of the Eucharistic presence of our Lord is even more serious than COVID 19! The diseases of the flesh can only harm the flesh, but the diseases of the soul rob us of eternal life! Just as there is a crisis of physical healthcare in our world, there is even a greater crisis of spiritual healthcare! This is evident in most every community and country! May we not fall victim to the insidious snares of the evil one who seeks to draw us into greater concern about the material world rather than the spiritual world!
Along these lines, I am very grateful to all of you who have participated in the future of our parish by viewing the Feasibility Study online or in person and also by either attending the listening session June 9th or by taking the Diocesan Survey online. All registered parishioners are encouraged to view the Feasibility Study at https://youtu.be/TPHFaZLjO9wor watch the Feasibility Study video on our website homepage at https://holyspiritparishoflawrencecounty.organd then take the short Diocesan Survey athttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HolySpiritFeasibilityStudyor use the QR code given at the beginning of this article. It is extremely important that we have young families and young people in our parish view the Feasibility Study and take the survey. Please do so soon. The survey will close on June 24th.
As part of my duties as chaplain to the FBI, this coming week from June 21st to June 24th I have been called on to serve the law enforcement first responder ommunity effected by the tragic and senseless attack on innocent life in Buffalo, New York. Approximately 200 crime scene investigators and evidence response and collection technicians were exposed to that horrific crime scene. As chaplain, I will be part of the critical incident intervention team assigned to assist those close to the unthinkable aftermath of such an evil act. Please keep our team, and especially those who were exposed, in your prayers. God love you,
