The Best of the Fest is this Friday and Saturday on the grounds of St. Vitus. A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers! You truly are what makes Holy Spirit Parish the place to be. Lively music always makes a fest more enjoyable. To add to that enjoyment, two local groups will serenade listeners on Friday, August 5th. The Lawrence County Brass will play from 4:00 pm to 5:50 pm and Grandview Soul’s vocals will sound from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The two groups performing on Saturday, August 6th are the Red Coat Band playing from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm followed by the Dorals from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Something very special about this event is that we have invited our friends and neighbors from other churches to participate. We are happy to welcome St. George Greek Orthodox Church serving Spanakopita, Baklava, Kataifi, Pasta Flora, Chocolate Almond Baklava Rolls and Kourambiethes; St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church with Lebanese cuisine: Kibbee, Tabuli, Rice with Sauce, Hummus with Pita and Lebanese Pastry; along with the Holy Spirit Parish Festival Food: Meatball or Eggplant Sandwiches, Cavatelli & Meatball, Pepperoni Puffs, Fried Dough, Kielbasa & Sauerkraut, Hot Dogs, French Fries, Pizza, Pop, Water, and Italian Ice.
Why did we invite others to participate? Because they are our friends and we are a part of a much wider community. Our Savior came to redeem the entire world. He taught us to see in the eyes of all people, our own brothers and sisters looking back at us. We are all in this world together. We need to love and cherish one another, put aside our differences and work together to build a world that is pleasing to God and beneficial for all humanity.
The Lord said, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Our hope is that if we can meet socially, we can also meet spiritually by working together and praying for one another. This is a beautiful community of people. Yes, we have our struggles, challenges, and difficulties, but so does everyone. It’s how we deal with the crosses in our lives that makes the difference.
We know that the Lord Jesus can bring about good even out of evil. This is how he chose to redeem us, by embracing the cross. He has instructed us to do the same thing in our own lives. When we share in carrying our neighbor’s burden, we unite ourselves to Christ and also become invigorated by His spirit working through us. May this Best of the Fest be the celebration not only of good food and good times, but more importantly, of good people coming together to make this world a better place and this community more welcoming. The prophet Isaiah said to King Ahaz, “Unless your faith is firm, you shall not be firm!” Isaiah 7:9
May our faith be firm so that our determination to live our faith may also be unyielding. God love you,
