Julia Russo, 93, of New Castle passed away the morning of October 5, 2022 at her residence. Born in Aliquippa on March 5, 1929, Julia was the daughter of the late Carmen and Grace Sacripanti Scarazzo. On July 9, 1949 Julia married her beloved husband, Francis N. “Hawky” Russo. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1996.
In the early years, Julia had worked at Gaylords Department Store. She then worked in the hostess shops and cafeteria at St. Francis Hospital and Jameson Hospital. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. Julia enjoyed going to Bingo and visiting casinos. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Julia’s greatest joy was cooking for her family and spending time with all of them.
Julia is survived by her three daughters, Marguerite Colella (Sam), Darlene Russo and Francine Russo all of New Castle, her sister, Palma Mott (Lou) of Center Township, PA, four grandchildren, Sammy Colella, Christopher Colella, Gino West and Brianna Hollis and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Julia was preceded in death by two brothers, Mars Scarazzo and Moe Scarazzo.
Visitation will be on Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Entombment will be in the family Mausoleum at St. Vitus Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Julia, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
