Joseph (Bates) Mastropietro, 88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 18, 2021 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Born in New Castle on February 2, 1932, Joseph was the son of the late John Mastropietro and Theresa Mitolo Mastropietro Del Signore. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty five years, the former Margaret “Tootsie” Fleo, whom he married on September 3, 1955.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. Joseph was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War Era. He retired from Pennsylvania Rolling Mill Steel Company where he worked as a Mill Wright and in the maintenance department. He had previously worked at National Steel and Elliot Brothers Steel. Joseph really enjoyed making wine. He also enjoyed hunting, cooking and tending to his garden. Joseph was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished being surrounded by his family.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph, Sr. (Ruth) Mastropietro, Patricia (Bruce) Tropea, Nancy (Phillip) Gallo, John (Amy) Mastropietro, all of New Castle; his sisters, Rose Roscetti, Lucy Saas, his step sisters, Linda Ollie and Sylvia Rashid, his grandchildren, Rachelle (Jason) Newton, Joseph, Jr. (Bobbilyn) Mastropietro, Natalie Gallo, Courtney (Jimmy) O’Rourke, Nichalos Gallo, Jamie Mastropietro, Johnny Mastropietro, and Phillip (Jennifer) Gallo; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his brothers, Nick Mastropietro, John Mastropietro, his sister, Frances Lemmon and his stepbrothers, Mario Del Signore, Joe Del Signore and Robert Del Signore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00am at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church officiated by Rev. Father Anthony Sciarappa. Burial will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
