Joseph M. Haney Jr., 70, of New Castle, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 5, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on Feb. 10, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, while his father was serving in the U.S. Army. His parents were Joseph M. Haney Sr. and Phyllis Jean (Reid) Haney.
Joe graduated from Laurel Junior/Senior High School in 1970. It was in his sophomore year in school, that he met the love of his life, Debbie Book. Joe went on to receive an associate degree in criminology.
Along with his family, Joe owned and operated two Midas Muffler shops and Haney Trucking Company, then known as HMJ Corporation. Later in his life, Joe worked for Pitt-Ohio Trucking Company. Joe especially enjoyed Sunday afternoon dinners with his daughters and their families. He loved watching them riding their bikes and battery powered cars, and playing basketball and baseball.
As a member of the Gripers Club, Joe enjoyed picnics, fishing and sharing good times with his many friends there. A special place for him was the family property they called Shamrock. It held wonderful memories of him having parties and swimming with his sisters and cousins. Later on, he loved watching his daughters and grandchildren swimming in the pond, riding dirt bikes and shooting at targets. Joe enjoyed spending time with the family pets.
Joe will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Debbie; his four daughters, Suzanne (Christopher) Braunlich of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Kiley Slowik of New Castle, Heidi Haney and Heather (Gary) Haney-Filippone; two sisters, Debbie (Sterling) Sammon and Kathy Sudetic; and Sonny Proch who he loved as a brother. He was blessed with twin grandchildren, Christian Braunlich and Riley Braunlich, Camren Haney, Andrae Carlisle, Cashius Carlisle, Johnalyn Haney, Madisyn Haney, Domenick Filippone, Christopher Filippone, Gracelyn Filippone; and a great-grandson, Kingstyn Haney. A host of nieces and nephews complete the family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his maternal grandparents, Don and Helmi Reid; his paternal grandparents, Martin and Alice Haney; and a brother-in law, David Sudetic.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the East Brook Presbyterian (ECO) Church, 3727 State Road, New Castle. Pastor Jason Schepp will officiate the service.
Eternal rest grant unto Joe, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
