Joseph J. Cappatt, 89, formerly of West Pittsburg, passed away the morning of September 7, 2021 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born on April 1, 1932, in West Pittsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Nancy Isabella Cappatt. On September 26, 1953, Joe married his beloved wife, the former Betty Tomon. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2021.
Joe worked for Pittsburgh Table Company, then worked for Vanport Stone and later retired from Rockwell International in 1981 as a group leader of the assembly line. He also owned and operated his own reupholstering company for many years. Joe was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church. He enjoyed doing yard work and visiting casinos. A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Joe’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his children, Dianne Anderson (Jim) of Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy Larsen (Lars) and JoAnn Wagner (Jason) all of New Castle, his brother, Carmen Cappatt of North Carolina, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Cappatt, his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Manzo, his brother, Patsy Cappatt and two sisters, Regatta Polansky and Mary Pagliaro.
Honoring his wishes there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
Give Joe eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on him forever. Let us find in your Son comfort for our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
