Joseph F. Foley, 88, of New Castle passed away the morning of March 13, 2020 at UPMC Jameson. Born in Ellwood City on February 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Margaret M. Kozak Foley. On May 21, 1960, he married his beloved wife, the former Lucille (Dolly) DiGiacomo. She survives at home.
Joe had worked as a printer for the Ellwood City Ledger and then the New Castle News until he retired. He was also known for bartending at Troggios Restaurant, The Halfway Inn and many local weddings. Joe was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. He served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a member of Italian American Veterans Organization (ITAM).
Joe loved the game of Morra. He had played in many local tournaments and organized many local teams. He was the Little Irish Man “King of Morra”, and didn’t realize he wasn’t Italian. Joe was a “People Person” with a great sense of humor and he loved to “Bust Chops”. Joe was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society where he was very involved, helping many people. Joe was known for famous Super Bowl parties that he organized for forty-six years.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, Mary Jo Coyne (John), Carolyn Joseph (Jerry), Janet Foley (Mark Elisco), Danny Foley-Ross (Martin) all of New Castle, his brother, Robert Foley of Ellwood City, his sister, JoAnn Tritt of Katy, Texas, six grandchildren, Kristin Clark, Jimmy Ross, Carli Reddy, Ryan Coyne, SaraKate Coyne, Gino Quahliero and three great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jack Clark and Marco Reddy.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, James and Thomas Foley, three sisters, Alice Chiaro, Donna Main, and Mary Bukac.
Visitation will be on Sunday 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor, will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites on Monday at Parkside Mausoleum. Entombment will be at Parkside Mausoleum.
