Joseph E. Thomas, 80, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of November 20, 2021 at UPMC Jameson. Born on May 25, 1941 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Felix and Mary Sarbo Thomas. On August 3, 1974, Joe married his beloved wife, the former Mary Ann Mastroddi. She survives at home.
Joe had retired after fifty-seven years as a very active and dedicated teacher and previous student activities director for Neshannock School District. He also had taught as an Adjunct Professor at Youngstown State University. Joe was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus site. He enjoyed traveling and watching sports. A loving husband and father Joe’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his daughter, Maribeth Thomas of Pittsburgh, his sister, Eleanor Peluso of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and sister-in law, Vikki Mastroddi of Gibbsboro, NJ and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Constance Zambelli and Jean Tardio and four brothers-in-law, Louis Mastroddi, John Peluso, George Zambelli, Sr. and Joseph Tardio.
Visitation will be on Tuesday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. Visitors are asked to adhere to CDC guidelines with the wearing of masks and practicing social distancing. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus Church. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Eternal rest grant unto Joseph, O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
