John L. Cartwright, 76, formerly of Union Township passed away the evening of May 3, 2023 at Quality Life Services of New Castle. Born on December 21, 1946 in New Castle, John was the son of the late John R. and Maxine Campbell Cartwright. On August 26, 1972 John married his beloved wife, the former Anita Carbone. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2022.
John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era. John also worked for Remacor and Sparmon Fischler. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site.
John is survived by his brother, Ed Cartwright (Holly); his two sisters, Sandee Yeager and Kathy Stickel (Roy); sister-in-law, Linette A. Cantakis and brother-in-law, Michael Cantakis, sister-in-law, Luann Cartwright and numerous nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Cartwright and brother-in-law, Dick Yeager.
Visitation will be on Monday 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Full Military Rites at the funeral home on Monday at 5:15 p.m., followed by a Blessing Service at 5:30 p.m. Seminarian Dan Roberts of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto John, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
