John Comianos, 88, formerly of Hazelcroft Avenue passed away the evening of August 17, 2022. Born on February 5, 1934 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Marko and Jennie Unis Comianos. On June 30, 1956, John married his beloved wife, the former Phyllis A. Fuleno. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2019.
At the age of twelve, John began working at the American Newsstand on the Diamond shining shoes. He then became owner of the newsstand which he owned and operated with his wife Phyllis for sixty years.
John proudly served his country as a member of the Army Reserves. John’s hobby was working at his newsstand daily and being with his many customers and friends. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
John is survived by his children, Maria Bulisco of New Castle, Dr. Marc Comianos (Patty) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and John Comianos, Jr. (Shari) of New Castle, two brothers, George Comianos (Marianne) and James Comianos (Rosemary) all of New Castle, two sisters, Barbara Clark of San Jose, and Mary Lou DelBrocco, (Peter) of San Jose, nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his brother, Mark “Gus” Comianos, sister, JoAnn Comianos and son-in-law, Donald Bulisco.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 24th, at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Fr. Brendan Dawson will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Eternal rest grant unto John, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
