Joan Russo, 84, of Mahoningtown passed away the morning of February 6, 2023 at Quality Life Services of New Castle. Born on August 31, 1938 in New Castle, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph (Lefty) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gangliero Russo.
In early years, Joan worked for Gaylords Department Store. She then worked for Castle Brand Meats and later as a waitress for the Eagles’ Club. Joan was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul site. Being a very social person, she enjoyed being with friends and family and going out to eat. She was a member of the Polish Falcons, the former St. Margaret’s Club and the Eagles’ Auxilary.
Joan is survived by several cousins and many close friends.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her three brothers, Robert Russo, Eugene (Barney) Russo and Samuel Russo.
Visitation will be on Friday 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 10:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Benjamin Barr will officiate. Burial will be at St. Lucy Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Joan, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
